Kathleen Buckner has worked professionally since 1995 after graduating from Cal State Fullerton with a BA in Communication, emphasis in journalism. She landed a job in the publishing industry one week before graduation with a large media organization in Laguna Beach. In 2000, she married, began teaching a magazine course at Saddleback and became a publications director for a smaller media company, also in Laguna.
She has two young boys (2 and 4 years) and various regular freelance commitments with magazines and newspapers, but she no longer works in the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. professional realm. Instead, she teaches at both Saddleback and Palomar colleges as an associate faculty member, and is the adviser of both the Saddleback magazine, Orange Appeal, and the Saddleback newspaper, the Lariat.
Her Masters Degree was achieved in 2000 in Organizational Management with an emphasis in Human Resources. Her goal with that was to open her own publishing company and produce a series of magazine titles that would appeal to moms, young teens and dads. That is still a work-in-progress.
She welcomes opportunities to teach journalism style, ethics, writing, editing and production to those students interested in the profession, and enjoys mentoring students to achieve their goals above anything else.
