Education: MSN –Family Nurse Practitioner & minor in Education California State University, Long Beach BSN –University of Maryland, Baltimore BS – Zoology- University of Michigan
Professional Experience: Immediately after graduation from nursing school, I spent 2 years at University of Maryland Shock Trauma in the Neuro-trauma Unit. A wonderful experience but not recommended as a first job! Since 1986, I have worked at Hoag Hospital in Critical Care as an staff nurse, a charge nurse and a House supervisor. I also was an educator for the surgical floors, the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit and Hyperbaric Oxygenation Unit. I have specialty certifications in Critical Care, in Hyperbaric Oxygenation Nursing and Nursing Education. To keep my skills current, I still work in the Intensive Care Unit and Hyperbaric Oxygenation Unit at Hoag as a staff nurse.
Starting in 1998, I was adjunct faculty at Saddleback College, California State University- Long Beach, Goldenwest College, and Cypress College. I have taught lectures and/or labs in Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Physical Assessment, Maternal/Child, and Critical Care at those various schools. I love Nursing and my passion is encouraging students to reach their potential and exceed their expectations.
I have been full time faculty here at Saddleback since Fall 2004. Here I have taught in N170 Fundamentals, N172 Medical Surgical Nursing, N173 Pediatrics, N174 OB, N176 Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing and N244 & N245 IV Therapy Techniques for Nurses. (Pretty much "everything but Psych!") I am the Case Manager of the Fostering Student Success Grant and developed and am now teaching the new Pre-nursing course N 204.
I am currently serving on the executive board as Treasurer of the newly reactivated California League of Nursing, an affiliate of the National League. The National League of Nursing promotes excellence in nursing education to build a strong and diverse nursing workforce. It is the voice of nursing education.
Personal: I have four sons, who keep me sharp, a wonderful husband, who keeps me sane and makes me laugh, and a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, who encourages me to walk and "take time to smell the roses". Stop by my office and I’ll show you pictures of my delightful granddaughter and grandson. When I finally slow down, I love to curl up with a good book.
