Suzanne Hewitt joined Saddleback College in September 2005. Her responsibilities include : Department Chairperson for Family & Consumer Sciences, & Food & Nutrition and Academic Senator for the ATAS division. Prior to joining Saddleback College Suzanne worked as the department chairperson for Chaffey College, Hotel & Food Service Management Dept. for 17 years. She developed the dietetic service supervisor, dietetic technician and culinary arts programs and degrees at Chaffey College. She served on multiple committees and was active in developing curriculum and serving on national & state-wide committees in foods & nutrition & dietetics. She was a consultant dietitian prior to entering education and worked in bariatric nutrition, private practice with physicians, and was the Betty Ford Center Nutritionist.
In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, sailing, skiing and reading. Recognition & Service Award , Chaffey College 1998.
Academic Interests Special interest and work in substance abuse, eating disorders and bariatric nutrition. She has served on numerous committees for the American Dietetic Association, as well as a test writer for the national registration examination for the Dietetic Technician.
Publications and Lectures Written for various local publications on general nutrition, eating disorders and weight management. She served as editor for the LEARN publication, by Kelly Brownell, Yale University. She has been featured on numerous cable telecasts on nutrition topics. She has lectured on general nutrition, weight management, geriatric nutrition, substance abuse and nutritional support at the Annenberg Center, Rancho Mirage, California, and cable television in the Inland Empire.
